Engaging All Voices in Your Planning Process

when: Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 3:00 pm ET

This webinar explores why participatory processes — those that intentionally engage all stakeholders in decision-making and planning — are critically important for nonprofit planning. It explains why all voices from all levels, spanning those who access an organization’s services, those with relevant lived experience, partners, board members, donors, staff, volunteers, and community members, should be engaged to share their expertise, insights, and ideas. Panelists will then provide an overview of how to maximize stakeholder participation in planning and program design

Access for everyone: Reimagining services for survivors

when: Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 3:00 pm ET

This webinar responds to the question: how can domestic violence organizations be redesigned to reduce the hurdles people face trying to access services? Panelists will outline what prevents survivors from accessing shelter – such as their need to bring pets and children – and explore how shelter accessibility can be improved. This will include consideration of how to support survivors who are navigating services after polyvictimization (the experience of multiple kinds of trauma, such as sexual violence and homelessness, or domestic violence and human trafficking). Panelists will also set out how to engage those who need shelter in service design.

WEBINAR three

Mythbusting Homelessness:

How fallacies prevent homelessness from being addressed

when: Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 3:00 pm ET

Homelessness has become one of the major issues of our times. Cities and towns throughout the country are grappling with increasing numbers of people living on the streets, in shelters, or in places unfit for human habitation. This is causing growing levels of frustration, and as a result we are seeing a return to criminalizing this issue, and its victims, which we know from past history, is ineffective as well as inhumane.

So, what is keeping us from solving this crisis? The webinar will discuss the myths and misperceptions that surround homelessness and those experiencing it, and how communities use these false or misleading narratives to take actions that are ineffective and often make the problem worse. Our guests will discuss these myths, the true causes of homelessness, and how individuals, communities and elected officials can make a real difference in solving this crisis.

Public narratives about homelessness include that homeless populations are “shipped” to particular places, that mental illness causes homelessness, and that a city that provides comprehensive homeless services will become a mecca for people experiencing homelessness.  Data do not support these notions

In this webinar, panelists will directly address common myths about homelessness, using research to set the record straight. They will then discuss best and emerging evidence-based practices for effectively addressing homelessness.
